Janome embroidery machines, sergers and sewing machines are always fun to review as they offer so many unique and interesting functions. You'll find all Janome reviews below but let's take a look at how Janome Company came to existence. Two companies, originally known as the New England Sewing Machine Company and the Home Shuttle Company joined forces to become the New Home Sewing Machine Company in the 1860s. In the 1960s, New Home was sold to Japanese owned.
From that time on, the already popular sewing machine brand took on a new life and even greater popularity. The top of the line Janome Horizon Memory Craft 12000 has three different bobbin cases. One for regular straight sewing; one for embroidery, elongated zigzag sewing and fine threads; and the third for free motion quilting and heavy threads like embroidery floss. Each bobbin case is color coded and specifically designed to accommodate the task at hand with its own unique tension adjustment and specifications. Popular Janome ModelsThe most popular Janome models are found in the Horizon Memory Craft Line. From the top of the line Horizon Memory Craft 12000 with its three color coded bobbin cases and the ability to do anything and everything the home sewer could possibly think of to the more affordable Horizon Memory Craft models we reviewed – the 7700 CP and the 6600, Janome sewing machines and sergers are excellent additions to any sewing room. Pros - Affordable - Accessible through several venues – amazon.com; authorized dealers - User friendly Cons - Many models do not have features normally found on other similar machines in the same price range.

The Janome M7050 is very much like the Janome M7200, but more user-friendly. This machine is a very good choice for anyone who might be intimidated by having to follow more than enough steps in order to accomplish a particular task.
This well built, lightweight, solid sewing and quilting machine is an ideal option for students – even if they happen to be as young as six or seven years of age. It is also easy to transport to class, to the college dormitory or to accompany the sewing enthusiast who likes to take they hobby along on vacation or for extended visits with family or friends. Janome’s M7200 is a light weight, solid affordable sewing and quilting machine that brings 200 utility, decorative and quilting stitches to the home sewer. It is a good choice for sewers of all skill levels. However, it is not a viable option for children in elementary school or adult sewing students who might find it intimidating to take additional steps while going through the process of selecting stitches. The owner’s manual is a very useful resource. While everyone should read every owner’s manual from cover to cover before operating any machine, the truth is most people don’t.
Failure to read this manual in its entirety just might result in a rather unpleasant surprise. The Janome Skyline S9 is the newest addition to the popular line of Janome Skyline sewing machines. Many Janome dealers are discovering that it is difficult keeping the S7.
I have no doubt that they will experience the same with the S9 – the first sewing, quilting and embroidery machine in this line. The S9 is whisper quiet, solidly built and so user friendly that I believe it will be a good choice for people who are sewing for the very first time. Although it is not a machine that I recommend for use by children, it is an excellent option for the student who is in their teens or older. The much talked about Janome Skyline S7 is everything it has been reported to be.
Not only is it solidly built and user friendly, the stitch quality is excellent reminiscent of the stitches produced by a far more costly sewing and quilting machine. This machine is so good, in fact, that I am learning that dealers are having a hard time keeping it in stock. If you are in the market for a new sewing and quilting machine with a large workspace, make sure you visit your local Janome dealer to check out this one before making a final decision.
The Janome MB-7 is a multi-needle embroidery machine which is designed for home use. It has an open bobbin case, which might be a challenge for some people. However, once that hurdle is cleared, the MB-7 produces superior quality embroidery designs and monograms. It has a maximum embroidery field of 9.4” x 7.9” and comes with embroidery hoops, the smallest of which is 4 x 4. The MB-7 is not for everybody, but if you spend the majority of your sewing time on embroidery projects, you owe it to yourself to take a very close look at this seven needle upright stand-alone embroidery machine. The Janome Memory Craft 9400QCP represents the dawning of a brand new generation of sewing and quilting machines from this well-established and reliable sewing machine manufacturer. This machine is loaded with features, many of which have never before been seen on home sewing machines.
My favorite, however, is the answer to one of my pet peeves the placement of the drop feed control. There are tons of other features, however, that no doubt are far more important to some home sewers – including the fact that users are able to create and store their own stitch designs for one time or repeated use. How cool is that? It took years for Janome to come up with a replacement for the Memory Craft 350E. According to Fay Nichol, owner of Sunshine Sewing and Quilting in Margate, Florida, the 500E is well worth the long wait. She was so excited about this machine that she invited me to review it as soon as it arrived.
In my opinion, the Janome Memory Craft 500E is an excellent, well-built embroidery only machine. It has but one limitation that I was able to observe. Unlike many other embroidery only machines that I have been able to review, anyone who invests in the 500E will not have the freedom of adjusting the size of their embroidery designs beyond 20% above or below the original design setting. Have you ever wondered which sewing machine the owners of sewing machine stores use?
I certainly have. When I asked Faye Nicholl, owner and manager of Sunshine Sewing and Quilting in Margate, Florida, she pointed to the Janome Memory Craft 6500 P.
It’s a sewing and quilting machine that is possibly the most solidly built new sewing machine I have seen in a very long time. It has all of the features anyone who enjoys sewing and machine quilting could ask for. It does not, however, have a free arm. That minor inconvenience is a long way from a deal breaker, especially when you consider the fact that Faye has been happy sewing and quilting on this machine for 12 years and told me that she has no plans to change anytime soon. When it comes to single purpose sewing machines, few are as popular in home sewing rooms as the cover stitch machine.
These machines are designed with one thing in mind – to give you professional looking finishes on your garments and accessories. The Janome Cover Pro 2000 CPX has taken this idea one step farther with the addition of the new looper tension switching lever. It is an innovative feature that has not only improved the performance of its predecessor, the Cover Pro 1000 CPX, it also saves a lot of time in the sewing room and takes a lot of the guesswork out of making adjustments for multiple layers of fabric or working with different types of fabrics. If you are in the market for a basic, no frills serger that has all of the essential features differential feed, adjustable stitch length, on board seam guide and retractable upper knife you should make a point of visiting your local Janome dealer and asking for a demonstration of the Janome 634D serger. This is an ideal serger for the beginner who has never touched a serger in their lives as well as the seasoned home sewer who just needs a basic serger for finishing seams. It is solid, quiet and affordable.
The folks at Janome have entered into a partnership with the Artistic Quilting Company of Canada. This means that it is now possible to get a dedicated quilting machine at your local Janome dealer. When I reviewed the Artistic Quilter SD 18, I was impressed by the user friendliness of this machine. Its simple design and ergonomic features make this an ideal selection for anyone who loves machine quilting but does not have the space to accommodate a large quilt frame. It is also an excellent choice for anyone who may be challenged by having to stand at a quilt frame for several hours on end. It is easy enough for a child of 12 or 13 to learn to use. With the addition of some optional accessories, the seasoned freehand machine quilting enthusiast will never tire or get bored creating intricate and detailed quilt designs and patterns on this highly customizable dedicated quilter.
The Artistic Quilter SD 18 is mounted on a table that features a drop leaf which makes it a great space saver as well giving machine quilting enthusiasts with space limitations the flexibility of adding a dedicated quilting machine to their sewing rooms as well. The Janome Skyline S5 is possibly the best designed sewing and quilting machine I have seen in a very long time. This machine is not only easy to operate, it is extremely user friendly. The design and placement of the features combine to make this one of the best machines for sewers of all skill levels that I have reviewed in a very, very long time.
The stitch selection process, the ability to change the needle plate with just one hand, and the sturdy ergonomic design are just a few of the features that make the Skyline S5 stand apart from many other sewing and quilting machines in its class. If there is a very young sewer in your life, you might be interested in taking a very close look at the Hello Kitty 15822 from Janome. This electronic sewing machine is loaded with kid friendly features like large, easy to understand and use dials and an automatic needle threader and a free arm. I got my first sewing machine when I was eight and never stopped sewing. There are a lot of sewing machines out there that are designed for children. Unfortunately, many of them are mere toys that do not produce good quality stitches and are difficult to use. It’s easy to start a love affair with sewing when a youngster starts out on a good sewing machine, and the Hello Kitty 15822 fills the bill.

This is an affordably priced, mechanical sewing machine that’s ideal for beginners. It has 22 stitch options plus one one-step buttonhole, an automatic needle threader and an on board accessories case that when removed, gives you access to a free arm. My only hesitation was that a few of the decorative stitches require a little extra manipulation of the length and width adjustment dials before I was able to get the desired result. All in all, however, this is a very good sewing machine, especially if price is a concern.
